A New Year and a whole new onslaught of mid-season shows and returning series to fill the skies of L.A., plus a few new movies to look forward to.
TV billboards
One of my favourite billboards this month had to be this cool Cold War propaganda style billboard for new 80's based spy drama The Americans, about KGB sleeper agents living in the U.S.Another visually interesting creative was this ad for Do No Harm, which has a modern day take on the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story.
Another striking favourite was this special extension face billboard for new show Deception, which has a Revenge vibe, with an undercover cop trying to find out how her childhood friend had dies amongst the world of a wealthy family.
This Banshee series premiere billboard caught my eye with its use of an illustration creative, even though it's a live-action crime drama.

Kevin Bacon stars in the new FBI serial killer show The Following and the pilot episode had promise.
Another new series based on an established movie franchise is A&E's forthcoming Bates Motel, which is based loosely on the characters from the Psycho films.
Meanwhile the History Channel with be bringing Vikings to the small screen this Spring and this Longship special extension billboard certainly grabs your attention.
This fun creative for the new sitcom based in the White House, 1600 Penn, also caught my eye in January.
Comedy Central also has a new comedy sketch show from Nick Kroll, which was also teased with a funny canine plastic surgery parody billboard in addition to this creative this month.
Speaking of funny, this billboard for Adult Swim's Newreaders also made me smile this month with its toilet humour in space creative.Shameless returned in a big way for a third season with this Snow White homage billboard along Sunset Strip.
And following his Golden Globe win for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, was replaced with this super-sized Don Cheadle billboard for the second season of House of Lies.
On the other side of the 9000 Building along Sunset Boulevard was this giant billboard for the sophomore season of HBO's Enlightened, starring Laura Dern.
David Duchovny returned for a sixth season of Californication with this provocative 'God Hates Us All' creative which really grabs your attention. If you like this, be sure to check out these Californication billboards for seasons three to five also.
Back for a fourth season on FX with a splash of colour was Timothy Olyphant, looking like a modern day cowboy in this billboard for Justified.
Back for a final season on Starz is Spartacus: War of the Damned, chronicling the epic slave uprising in Roman times.
Another Golden Globe winner was HBO's Girls, with Lena Dunham scooping up awards for both Best Actress in a Comedy Series and Best Comedy.
Smash returns for an encore performance with a retooled season two for the musical drama, lots of new characters and twists including the addition of Jennifer Hudson to bring some star power.
Cougar Town switches networks from ABC to TBS and is back with a wine-soaked fourth season of the Florida based comedy.
And two of my favourite reality competitions return, Project Runway is back for an eleventh season with a Team challenge twist.
Plus RuPaul's Drag Race sashays back for a fabulous fifth season to make Monday nights super-fun again.
Outspoken comedienne Kathy Griffin is also back for a second season asking the uncomfortable question son her Bravo chat show.
Plus now that the American public has voted (and thankfully elected U.S. President Obama for a second term), Bill Maher returns with some biting political observations.
And as it's the start of the year we're in awards season and the biggest night in music has a smattering of stylish mono billboards for the 55th Grammy Awards around L.A., featuring the likes of Rihanna and Taylor Swift.
Movie billboards
Disney is off to a great start to 2013 with this giant-sized billboard for Oz The Great and Powerful, which immediately evokes the iconic Wicked Witch of the West.Another fantasy offering this month is Hansel & Gretel, which re-imagines the fairytale siblings as grownup witch hunters.
Guillermo del Toro brings the horror, and creepy looking children, to January with the scary Mama movie.
Meanwhile bringing the laughs in February is a new comedy starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman, about identity theft, which looks like it could be lots of fun.
Arnie returns to the big screen with a big gun and thankfully flops in a big way with The Last Stand.
Whilst his buddy Sylvester Stallone is back with more guns and violence in Bullet to the Head.
Finally for this round-up, here's an Oscar nomination billboard for Zero Dark Thirty, obviously hoping to pick up some votes along the busy commuter zone of Sunset Strip for this year's Academy Awards.
Be sure to check out the latest TV and film billboards at Daily Billboard and come back soon for this month's round-up of the coolest fashion, drinks and lifestyle billboards around L.A...
