Over the Holidays I had a chance to catch up with Disney's latest animated feature at the cinema and I have to say I now know what all the fuss was about.
It's the usual Disney fare based on a well known fairytale, this time Rapunzel and her infamously long hair, but it feels fresh and original rather than too twee and dated.
The lack of cute animals (a horse and a chameleon are plenty here), maybe a few less songs (albeit more show-tuney) and some likable, funny characters make for an enjoyable romp.
Rapunzel's evil mother isn't the most memorable Disney villain design, but she is a good protagonist.
I never once felt bored during the film and there are some true cinematic moments, like when hundreds of lanterns are released into the air.
Tangled deserves four **** stars and has much more story and emotional connection than Disney's latest live-action movie, Tron: Legacy.
It's nice to see that Disney can make a successful and enjoyable movie without always relying on Pixar to offer up the goods. I'm interested to see what's next for Disney...
