When you drive along Santa Monica Boulevard through Beverly Hills your eye is drawn to a gleaming new sculpture.
Erratic by Roxy Paine, 2007

Looking like a silver igloo in the midst of Beverly Gardens Park, this intriguing new stainless steel sculpture is called 'Erratic' and is by Roxy Paine from 2007.

With its multi-faceted design 'Erratic' truly is captivating to look at from all angles.

Its name truly fits this sculpture as it can have multiple meanings.

My dictionary tells me that erratic can refer to its irregularity or can relate to a piece of rock that has been transported from its place of origin by glacial action. I think both these meanings are fitting.

It really does stand out as you drive past, especially with the Californian sunshine beating down upon it, and is a welcome addition to the other sculptures that feature in Beverly Gardens Park.

You'll find the new sculpture further along from the bronze piece by Magdelena Bakanowicz from 2000, 'Sitting figure on a short bench', on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and Crescent Drive.

I'm sure it'll become a fast favourite amongst visitors and tourists who like to have their photographs taken near the local Beverly Hills landmarks.

I certainly know that our yellow Labrador Cooper was intrigued by the sculpture when he accompanied me to take some pictures.

It ticks all the right boxes for me, but what do you think? Do you consider this sculpture a dazzling spectacle of art, or just a big mound of steel?
After all art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder...

"Jason In Hollywood" has been included in this weeks A Sunday Drive. I hope this helps to attract even more new visitors here.
